Occasionally, if I have the time, I’ll translate a particular song lyric that sticks with me into a painting for my own amusement. This one from a few years back is based on a line from the song “An Idiot’s End” by Daniel Johnston: “…a court jester holds up a lightbulb and says “All that is made is made to decay.”” (Johnston himself is also an artist and has done a lot of Beatles-inspired paintings and drawings.)
I’ll post more of these illustrated lyrics (some are pretty old!) as I run across them and create new ones.
I started this painting 2 years ago, randomly working on it now and then. It was leaning by a shelf next to my desk unfinished until very recently, when I picked it up and finished it within an hour or two.
Sometimes I like to challenge myself with a clean sheet, a new idea, and no pre-sketching (taking about an hour or so from start to finish). This painting is one of those.
Another hand-colored print. I’ve been working on a few of these this week, if you can’t tell.
“Forward.” A hand-colored print I just finished tonight. (Not the best picture, I’ll take a better one when I can.)
